Temporary Works Grillage

As part of our international turnkey packages, we were involved in the onsite installation of a temporary works grillage in Rendsburg, Germany, to support pile installation works. Working with Combifloat Systems B.V. and Red7Marine, this collaboration involved the design and commission of temporary works to support the construction of a new road bridge across the Kiel Canal.

Fusing maritime history and complex human engineering, the 1,500m long by 42m high bridge carries the A7 motorway east of Rendsburg in Schleswig-Holstein. Working alongside Combifloat Systems B.V. and Red7Marine, our engineers developed the structural design of a grillage platform to maximise the capacity of a C7 cantilevered pontoon. This was to support the operation of a 100t tracked crane and a 30t VRM2000 casing oscillator, enabling the successful drilling and installation of piling work.

Delivering specialist turnkey packages, we provided:

  • Vessel structure and system analysis
  • C7 bull rail design
  • Removable cantilever fabrication design
  • Additional structure required to withstand loads generated by VRM2000 <230t
  • Structure to accommodate torque reaction of VRM2000 on deck
  • Structure to allow +/- 250mm positioning tolerance
  • Structure to ensure HS8100 track levels and maximum track pressure requirements are accommodated
  • Safe access design
